Alvin founded RPG Consultants in 1983 with a clear vision: to provide independent retirement plan consulting and administration without selling investment or financial products and without participating in revenue-sharing arrangements. At a time when much of the industry was becoming increasingly product-driven, Alvin built RPG around a different model, one centered on transparency, technical expertise, education, and long-term relationships with clients and advisors.

Before founding RPG, Alvin worked in education as a Mathematics Instructor and school Principal in New York City. He brought an educator’s mindset into the retirement plan industry and became known not only for sophisticated plan design and consulting expertise, but also for his commitment to helping investment advisors, CPAs, and business owners better understand the retirement plan landscape. He served as a New York State-approved lecturer for Continuing Education credits in Pension Education, as well as an approved instructor for CPA and CFP^® continuing education programs, and regularly spoke on developments within the retirement planning industry.

Under Alvin’s leadership, RPG became an early advocate for fee transparency and advisor independence. In 2003, RPG was among the first firms in the country to offer ETFs within retirement plans and the first non-investment advisory firm to do so while maintaining a fully independent structure. Alvin also helped pioneer an open architecture approach that allowed advisors and clients greater flexibility, transparency, and access to lower-cost investment options without conflicts of interest.

Today, Alvin is most proud that RPG has grown into a third-generation family business built on the same principles that guided the firm from the beginning: honesty, service, independence, and strong client relationships. Although retired from day-to-day operations, Alvin still provides advice and perspective to Evan and Ben, often joking that it comes from “the older generation.”
